The Baltimore Liberation Center is located in Downtown Baltimore. It hosts working and meeting spaces, a bookstore, and a variety of events.
Because we are community-funded, this is not a space that can be coopted by corporate politicians and billionaires. We have the political independence to decide what kinds of events we host and what kind of organizing we promote, so that we can ensure that our work consistently aligns with the interests of the working class.
Our space is staffed by volunteers from the Baltimore branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, alongside community members committed to building the space with us.
The Liberation Center is a space that aims to bring together the community organizations our city already has, and help to develop the ones we need. The goal of this space is not just to build relationships with each other, but to work alongside each other to achieve socialism in our lifetimes.
To sharpen working class consciousness and strengthen community organizations, we host organizing meetings, study groups, cultural events, forums on pressing issues, and more.
Our volunteers from the Baltimore branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation are part of a national organization that is dedicated to struggling for the socialist reorganization of society.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation is committed to the liberation of all peoples from poverty, racism, and all forms of gender- and sexuality-based oppression. We see our struggle to end the capitalist system in the United States as intrinsically connected to the struggle of all oppressed nations around the world to become free from imperialism.
In Baltimore, we see that the needs of the people take a back seat to the desires of developers and the wealthy. Houses remain vacant while people sleep on the street. Opioid overdoses and preventable diseases kill our neighbors. Police murder Black Baltimore residents with impunity in order to maintain control. In a socialist Baltimore, meeting the needs of our neighbors would take priority over controlling or neglecting them for the sake of profit.
The millionaires and billionaires shouldn’t decide how we live. The people of Baltimore desperately need and deserve a new government and a new system run for us and by us. This kind of government is not possible under capitalism, but it is the foundation of the socialist future we are fighting for.
To get to that future, we have to start today! All the work we do together now will not only ensure that we reach that future, but that we will be able to run society alongside each other when we do.
Downtown Baltimore has faced severe neglect and oppression by the ruling class. Many buildings are left vacant and run down, residents face poverty and an extreme opioid crisis, and the neighborhood is, along with many other parts of the city, one of the biggest targets for gentrification in the country. The Baltimore Liberation Center is proud to be building with our neighbors every day in the fight for a dignified life.
